FastServers.Net Avoids cPanel Exploit, with Security Deployment
Chicago, Illinois - September 28, 2006 - FastServers.Net has reported that it has completed a massive update project, securing more than 900 cPanel servers in less than 48 Hours, allowing the possibility of privilege escalation, which allowed an attacker with access to a local account to gain root privileges on the server.
The cPanel exploit become public on September 23rd, at which time a team of support engineers started the process of updating over 900 managed dedicated servers. In less than 18 hours, the security response team patched over 70 servers.
Matt Doyle, Director of West Operations for FastServers.Net explained, ''It was important that we quickly assemble a team to insure the security of our managed clients, as this exploit could have led to servers being compromised and potential data loss and embarrassment for the server operators.
