1&1 Internet Opens Kansas Facility
August 24, 2006 -- Web hosting provider 1&1 Internet (1and1.com) announced on Thursday it will open a new data center in Lenexa, Kansas. The company has selected a 55,000 square-foot facility that will supply space for 40,000 servers and will accommodate its rapidly growing US Web hosting client base.
The data center is scheduled to open early in 2007 and will employ 15 people. Currently, 1&1's Web site customers are hosted in two rented data centers in New York and New Jersey. The new facility in Kansas City will handle all new customers from within the US and Canada.
"Opening another location besides our headquarters in the Philadelphia area underscores the importance of our US business," says Andreas Gauger, chairman of 1&1 Internet. "1&1 will invest up to $9 million in the Lenexa site this year and several million more in 2007."
The Lenexa facility was selected from 10 sites and marks the first major investment 1&1 has made in Kansas. 1&1 provides Web hosting and domains registration services for small and medium-sized businesses and consumers.
