Experts from AFCOM Available to Discuss Data Center Energy Crisis

MySpace.com Outage Tied to Data Center Power Loss Puts Issue in National Spotlight

For the data center industry, power consumption and availability are arguably two of its most pressing concerns. To assist journalists covering the topics, experts from AFCOM’s Data Center Institute are available as sources to address the array of related perspectives: industry overview, end-user, and solution provider.

Formed in 2001, AFCOM’s Data Center Institute is a prestigious “think tank” comprised of forward-thinking data center managers, solution providers and industry leaders, whose charter is to identify and examine issues and trends affecting the data center, and provide thought leadership for the industry and the media.

* Jaime Man - Director of Information Technology - Health Care Excel, Indianapolis, IN
* Peter Panfil - VP, UPS Engineering - Liebert Corp., an Emerson Network Power Company
* Rick Sawyer - Director of Data Center Technology - American Power Conversion

Power issues impacting the evolution of the data center were forecast earlier this year by board members of the Data Center Institute in a keynote presentation titled “Five Bold Predictions for the Future of the Data Center Industry,” which was delivered at AFCOM’s Data Center World conference in Atlanta.

The specific prediction, “Over the next five years, power failures and limits on power availability will halt data center operations at more than 90 percent of all companies,” was issued along with supporting survey data.
