Web Host 1&1 Offers RSS Feeds Through Its Control Panel
1&1 Internet, Inc. announced that it is the first Web Hosting company to offer a tool which creates RSS feed and displays it on a Web site. 1&1’s EasyRSS makes it possible to display information updates instantly. The main feature is that a customer can create his or her own content such as news for a Web site, use the 1&1 Dynamic Content Catalog to show third-party news, create a simple podcast or create a photocast in combination with 1&1 Photo Gallery and disseminate to interested parties
Some of the benefits of RSS as a content delivery vehicle are that: it is spam free; you can’t spread a virus and: the customer is in control – he or she will never have to struggle to be removed from a mailing list.
“We are offering this feature now because we truly believe our customers will find this to be an incredibly useful tool,” said John Cook, General Manager, 1&1. “Right now, most major news sites use this tool. However, we see RSS trickling down to the consumer and small businesses. For instance, a little league coach disseminating the team’s current batting averages and other statistics. In addition, it’s an ideal tool for podcasting and photocasting, which is very popular right now.”
A report by research firm Ipsos Insight bears this out. The 2005 research stated that “A common thread throughout the study is the appeal of RSS to the average mainstream Internet user -…27 percent of Internet users enjoy the benefits of RSS without knowing it…suggesting that RSS is not just for the tech-savvy few.”
