Blue Security Appoints Peter Swire, Privacy Expert and Former Presidential Counselor, to its Board of Advisors
Swire to Provide Guidance and Insight on Privacy and Individual Rights to Blue Security
Menlo Park, Calif., March 8, 2006 – Blue Security, developers of the Do Not Intrude Registry™, an active, community-based solution to eliminate unsolicited bulk e-mail, has named distinguished law professor and privacy expert Peter Swire to its Board of Advisors. Swire is the former Clinton Administration Chief Counselor on Privacy and will bring his extensive background in privacy legislation and individual rights to Blue Security.
From 1999 until Jan. 2001, Swire served as the Chief Counselor for Privacy, in the U.S. Office of Management and Budget. In that position, he coordinated Administration policy on the use of personal information in the public and private sectors. He also played a leading role on topics including financial privacy, Internet privacy, encryption, e-commerce policy, and computer security and privacy. Swire is currently the C. William O’Neill Professor of Law at the Moritz College of Law of the Ohio State University. Often quoted by the media, Swire has appeared in many major U.S. newspapers, on national television and radio programs, as well as international media.
"Professor Swire is an esteemed counselor and industry visionary, and we welcome his knowledge and experience to our Board of Advisors," said Eran Reshef, chairman and CEO of Blue Security. “He is an expert in the areas of privacy and cybersecurity, both of which are crucial to our business. We are eager to take Professor Swire’s lead on these issues and apply his insight to our business model, further protecting the rights of e-mail users.”
Swire added, “Individuals are permitted to opt-out from receiving unwanted messages under the CAN-SPAM Act, but those opt-outs so far have been ineffective and unsafe. I believe the Blue Security approach can make a major difference worldwide in the fight against spam. The Do Not Intrude Registry™ provides a safe and effective opt-out mechanism and protects individuals and companies from spam by giving spammers their first real incentive to cleanse their e-mail lists. I look forward to sharing my background and experience in the field to help solidify Blue Security as the most viable option to actively fight unsolicited e-mail threats.”
Since the debut of the Do Not Intrude Registry at the end of July 2005, Blue Security has helped its members protect more than 180,000 e-mail addresses to significantly reduce and eliminate the threats of unsolicited spam. The Registry asks spammers to remove Blue Security member addresses from their mailing lists and cease future solicitation. No other e-mail security or filter solution provides consumers with an efficient, safe and ethical way to exercise their opt-out right.
