WiredRed Announces the Industry's First Multipoint Video Conferencing API With Support for Wide-Screen Video

LOS ANGELES, Internet Telephony Conference & Expo, Booth #640, Oct 25, 2005 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- WiredRed(R), a technology leader in real-time communications software, today announced that the Company's e/pop Web Conferencing API, a web services Application Programming Interface (API), now includes broader support for more video capture cards, such as the popular Osprey card, and most Firewire and USB web cameras from Global Media and other vendors. This product enhancement, along with an earlier announcement regarding the Company's new VoIP API, places WiredRed at the forefront of full-suite, multipoint Internet conferencing solutions. The new API delivers the capabilities of point-to-point communications available in consumer services, such as Skype audio and AOL video, to commercial vendors including PBX manufacturers, software developers, ISPs and ASPs, that seek to include the same capabilities in secure, multipoint, commercial-grade products and services.

"This announcement is a significant industry milestone. It marks the first time that secure, multipoint voice AND video -- available directly to the desktop over existing networks -- are offered in one application programming interface," said Steven Peltier, WiredRed CEO. "It will help our partners add multiparty, fully interactive VoIP and video extensions to their products and online services more quickly -- giving them a definite advantage in their respective markets."

WiredRed's new API now brings highly scalable, secure, multipoint VoIP and video capabilities, options for real-time sharing environments and the ability to dynamically connect corporate and government users that are typically behind their own firewalls, to third-party software developers that seek an innovative, proven technology to enhance their applications and online services.

The new enhanced API adds support for a wider variety of devices, web cameras and video capture cards -- which broadens compatibility and makes launching and hosting web and video conferences with participants on a variety of PC desktops and laptops faster and easier. The new API includes added support for widescreen (720 x 480 NTSC, 720 x 576 PAL) video device modes to accommodate most wide-angle conference room cameras. More automatic video mode and resolution has been added to the e/pop Web Conferencing API, as well as support for 160 x 120 video device mode and 352 x 288 CIF video devices.

WiredRed provides the most scalable multipoint video conferencing engine for desktop PCs and boardrooms on the market today. It produces sharp, clean resolution at 30 frames per second and unlike any other solution on the market, it can provide multipoint 320x240 or 640x480 (VGA) resolution. Multipoint video is produced at bit rates that rival hardware video codecs and dedicated video devices, making the need for a hardware solution obsolete. It fully leverages MMX extensions, including SSE3, which is available on Pentium or later machines, and AMD64 class computers.
